For the official Nutcan record: Awful showing tonight in pretty much all facets of the game. We over threw the ball about 19 times, and couldn't hang onto the ones that got there. The outfield let about 3 balls roll all the way to the wall. I ran to a base that was already occupied. (Though in my defense, we would do well to have uniforms, or at least not wear exactly what the other team is. emoticon) We also couldn't get a hit to save our lives.

It's really pretty inexplicable the game was so close.

Edit: I think I saw Fred's Year Round had white shirts with teal print. Let's try and avoid anyone wearing that.

Edit 2: They (WINS) seemed pretty good too, which makes the fact that the game was so close all that more inexplicable.

Edit 3: Apparently WINS had a very pregnant player in the line up. I did not notice, much to the shock of Sarah and my mom. Was I the only one who missed this?

I noticed, it is a little risky, but as long as she doesn't get hit in the belly, I would think it harmless if not healthy.

Your mom comes to the games?

My mom was at last night's game. She was filling it for Matt and Jon's mom who is normally there.

No one was making any sort of value judgment on the pregnant player, apparently it was just really obvious and I'm not very observant.

Hey Nutcanners. We played you last night. And although you seem to think you had a very poor game, we think we played very poorly as well. Maybe our poorest outing of the year (the least amount of runs). So what do you think about that? : )

Anyway - good game, it was fun. We're looking forward to playing you again.

Yeah, 10 total runs is fairly low scoring by this leagues' standards.

We would have done a lot better if we could have gotten one hit past your damn shortshop. emoticonemoticon

The words say "good game", but between the lines I read, "I think we're better than you." Or, at least, "I want YOU to think that we're better than you."

(But maybe that's just me. The colon-parentheses smiley face is there, but I just never know how much weight to give to those.)

Actually, while I'm on the subject of those faces, let me explore it further. Not relating to the quoted post above but just in general.
Like, if you were late to yesterday's meeting and a co-worker emails, "hey way to be punctual yesterday :)", you know that's probably a good natured ribbing. Then again, if they write, "You're an incompetent worker who never contributes and I hope you staple yourself to your desk so that I never have to see your ugly face walk into another meeting late ever again! :)" That's maybe not friendly right? I mean they probably need at least one more smiley face in there to counter all that hate right?

But where's the line? Someone needs to do a study on this. We need standards.

Personally, my eyes often seem to skip right over the smiley face things. Which sometimes leads to me not understanding the intent, but sometimes I think the words alone probably convey the real message anyway. Like in "Dodgeball" when Ben Stiller insults someone, then says, "Just kidding. But not really." I found that specific character trait hilarious and quite clever because I think that's what people really mean sometimes. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm thinking sometimes. But maybe I'm just cynical, or maybe I'm a horrible person in my own right.
But I think it's probably accurate to say that sometimes this :) is just the electronic version of "Just kidding. But not really."

Which is why I only use :-) as a smiley face. You can't question the sincerity of that one.
