Saints 10 @ Colts 41

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Well well well, if it isn't the start of the NFL season.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
There are going to be some really good games this first week. It's always hard to tell what's going to happen. There could be a few upsets while some teams find their grooves, or some teams could actually better or worse than we thought they were. I like the Saints in this one though. The Colts have been greedy, paying a few key stars way mucho grande money and having to let go a lot of their other "non" stars in return to stay under the cap. So, I think they're on the down turn.
matt.jpg
Matt
Peyton Manning is good.
jon.jpg
Jon
I think homefield is the difference here. That, and Indianapolis is better.

Falcons 3 @ Vikings 24

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Did you guys hear Vick isn't even going to be playing in this game? I guess he's in some sort of legal hot water. It's tough to say how either of these teams will do this year. (More so than the usual "a few teams surprise you a few 'good' teams suck" phenominon.) I wont be surprised by a 3-6 game or a 30 point spread one way or another.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
1999? While defense wins championships, you need any offense at all to win some games. With no proven quarterback, and their best WR a Packer never been, I think the Vikings will be hurtin' this year. Who did let the dogs out?
matt.jpg
Matt
Bobby Wade for MVP!!!
jon.jpg
Jon
I was so disturbed by all the strange ways Minnesota has decided to dismantle their team that I had to remind myself to enjoy the fact that we drafted Adrian Peterson. Adrian freaking Peterson! I should have been really happy about this. I am happy. But I can' t help but be weary of our chances.
You know, it's kind of strange. There's actually talent at most every position except big question marks at qb and receiver. So maybe they'll be fine.

Eagles 13 @ Packers 16

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Brett Favre looked off in the preseason and A-Rod looked like a superstar. Luckily for Favre he could have 25 interceptions heading into week 3, and lose a limb in a tragic lawn mowing accident, and no one would even think of suggesting A-Rod should start ahead of him.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
Finally, the Eagles come to Lambeau. Or have they been here recently? I'm not going to fact-check. It'll be nice to see Favre back in action. Our defense will be fun to watch. Too bad our GM doesn't care about our offense.
matt.jpg
Matt
I guess this is when I'm supposed to say something like "4th and 26". Well, that would be cliche, so instead I'll just say that the Packers suck.
jon.jpg
Jon
This was one of the easiest games for me to pick, which means the Packers will probably win.

Giants 35 @ Cowboys 45

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
I think it's safe to say the Giants are the drama queens of the league.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
Cat fights between football players are fun.
matt.jpg
Matt
Can we stop making these stupid comments? Nobody has had anything good to say for about 3 years now.
jon.jpg
Jon
I don't understand how these teams got a nationally televised game.

Ravens 20 @ Bengals 27

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
Apparenly Carson Palmer suffered some sort of knee injury, though it doesn't get much play on the airwaves.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
I don't know
matt.jpg
Matt
Seriously, I don't think I've had a thing to say about any game since week 10 in 2003 (look it up).
jon.jpg
Jon
Carson Palmer is one of those players that I can't help but love. I had him on my fantasy team.

Cardinals 17 @ 49ers 20

jeremy.jpg
Jeremy
This game leaves a little to be desired on paper. Though supposedly the 49ers are supposed to be good this year.
sarah.jpg
Sarah
Cardinals take the division? Not on my watch.
matt.jpg
Matt
Really, nobody even cares about this game.
jon.jpg
Jon

Someone should do a statistical analysis to see if the 1st week of the season is really more unpredictable than any other random week. I didn't really know who to pick, so I went mostly with the home team.

Jeremy - .675 - .631
Matt - .575 - .572

Sarah - .575 - .608

2 years of week 1s, lifetime is 2006 only:

No! The Packers are the greatest! Brett Favre is a three time MVP! Vikings sucked last year and they will again.

Tony Mandarich!

Gary Anderson!

Domes are for sissies!

Only morons buy stock with no value!

We all (the four senior staffers)
Jeremy, Sarah, and I picked the bottom eight games the same.
Also, Sarah and I picked opposite teams the first six games, then the final ten exactly the same.

edit: I was wrong, matt picked the ravens
edit again: Jeremy picked the Jaguars. I'm a moron. MBL?

Seriously though, the Saints looked AWFUL and not just because the Colts looked so good. Drew Breeze looked inept and Reggie Bush looked like it was his first time ever running a football. They are dripping with potential one year wonderdom, and this game didn't help their cause to prove they aren't.

The time of death comment was in jest, but man....they looked horrid.

I'm not sure how the Packers pulled that one out. I hope every team they play makes that many stupid mistakes. Although, the Packers defense was pretty solid the whole game. I'll them that.

2 fumbled punts and McNabb 2wice threw to wide open Packers? I think it's a conspiracy to get Favre into the Super Bowl. Crosby was the steal of the draft.

And in case anybody was waiting for me to drop him, Joey is now on the waiver wire.

I watched it in Tampa, but the Bucs game cut in immediately after the muffed punt with 59 seconds left. I listened to the last minute via a telephone call to my parents.

Also, I think at one drive during the game, the entire Packers offense was just standing around watching Favre play. I mean, he seemed to be playing with a bunch of guys who had no heart. I hope that changes, because what I saw today was an old QB who still has more energy and passion than the rest of his team.

If only the packers could play a team that makes 500 mistakes every week they would be undefeated! Even packer fans can admit that was a gift. Good kicker though.

On the other hand I wish the vikings could play Joey every week, he is now 1-8 vs Minny.

Bubba Franks looked at the passes intended for him with contempt. One of them was intercepted. Franks should not be owned, not in a 20-team league, not in a Bubbas-only league.

Yea, I know. You live in Minnesota. I doubt you're considered part of the Green Bay coverage area.

Just like you're not in a Twins coverage area emoticon

Word. He must've gotten an owie from a Favre pass once and from then on he's tried hard to not get open and he doesn't want to touch the football when it's thrown at him. Now that #89 is a half-way decent player my wrath is officially shifted to Frankenstein.

Is anyone else watching this Arizona/San Fransisco game? The trio of Mike, Mike, and Mike in the booth is intolerable.

Listen ESPN, America doesn't care about soccer and it doesn't care about women's sports. What makes you think we're excited for women's soccer?

Looks like about 3 months.

Edit: I just engineered a mechanical dragonling that fights for me. How cool is that?

I'm not a soccer fan in general. However, I've always thought women's soccer was pretty hot. But I guess that's probably demeaning. Also, it doesn't mean I actually stop to watch a match.

Also, I didn't watch, or listen to, the whole game, but I didn't think Mike and Mike and Mike were that bad. I was only listening to it as background noise for the most part, but they didn't seem any worse than any other booth. Maybe it's because I was only listening and not watching much, but I don't remember getting upset with what they said more than once. And it was relatively minor. I generally am annoyed at least that much by any team calling the game.

It wasn't what they said really, in fact if anything it was the exact opposite. There were long awkward expanses where no one said anything. Perhaps they needed time to gel (I know two of the Mikes have a show every morning). Someone should have informed them they can fill any second of dead air by talking about Brett Favre.

In light of the Patriots cheating, I say that their victory over the Jets should be forefited and I (and PackOne) should get credit for a correct pick. So says the Ombudsman.
