This will be my first game at Lambeau. I'll be sure to regale you all with tales of how the wonderment of it all brings me to my knees weeping like a little school girl.

The T-Jack Era begins. Repent now Packer fans! Actually in all seriousness a handful of first downs would be an improvement.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul!

Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt died last week. While I had always heard his name mentioned as being an important guy in football history, I never realized how involved and important he was in the NFL (and AFL before that), as well as in the tennis and soccer worlds. He seems to have been quite a guy.

I don't think you're an idiot at all. I mean, there are elements of the ridiculous about you. Your mother's pretty interesting. And you really are an appallingly bad public speaker. And, um, you tend to let whatever's in your head come out of your mouth without much consideration of the consequences.... But the thing is, um, what I'm trying to say, very inarticulately, is that, um, in fact, perhaps despite appearances, I like you, very much.

Here's Green Bay's playoff scenario: Giants need to lose their 2 remaining games, Atlanta needs to lose 1, St. Louis needs to lose 1, and Seattle needs to win 1. It doesn't matter who these teams lose to or beat. I'm following this pretty closely now. Where is Tyrone Poole when you need him.

Damn it you beat me to that comment. I put more money on Any of the above scenarios than the Packers beating the Vikings and the Bears. I don't care if the Bears are resting their starters. All that means is Grossman won't play and Benson will get the carries. Thats more than enough to beat the Packers.

If the Packers make the playoffs the NFC is a bigger travesty than I thought. The teams the Packers have beaten are a combined 26-58. Of course if they win out that will go up to about 44-70

but if the Packers win out, the Vikings are officially out, because the Packers would have the Tie Breaker.

The NFC needs the Packers in the playoffs. Football suffers, in fact America suffers, when the Packers don't do good. Look at the presidential approval ratings during the mid to late 90's and early 2000s. They were pretty high. But look at the approval ratings for the last 2 or 3 years. Pretty bad. Coincidence? Not likely.

Or how about the 1970s. Nixon, Ford, and Carter. Not exactly our greatest presidents. In fact, the 70's was not a good decade for presidents. I think it was because the Packers were 57-83-5. You want America to survive? Win Packers Win.

Article? Ha. I just started making this up, but I could find some facts to support it if I tried hard enough.

I'm glad Jeremy was at the game and not watching it, because his head would have exploded with the amount the two TV announcers mentioned the idea of this maybe being Brett Favre's last game at Lambeau. Bryant Gumble mentioned during the first 3 Packer possessions, he mentioned it at least twice during the pregame, and I think he thought about it at least a dozen other times. Also, Bryant Gumble is probably the worst sports caster I have ever watched. He was making mistake after mistake, he always always had to quailify his statements (it "appears" that the Packers have a first down, Green "appears" to be down at about the 35.) We all know it's not going to be perfect, just say it already. Anyway, Chris Collinsworth was ok, but Gumble is basically a Metrosexual sportscaster type who would be better served calling games for the NFL on Lifetime. At one time during a break the camera was on the 3 super bowl trophies from the Packer Hall of Fame, and Gumble referred to them as the "three shiny trophies." He later said that they were fabulous (not really, but you could imagine).

Anyway, probably the most uninteresting game I have ever watched. But the Vikings are done, the Packers are still alive, and that's all that really matters.

Since I promised to regale you with some tales...

1) I'll take my cushy dome, thanks. I've been to Lambeau a few times and it has either been hot or raining. Nothing like being soaking wet and freezing for 10 hours.

2) I'll take my actual chair at said dome, thanks. Sarah had some guy in her lap the entire game. Lambeau needs to institute a policy like the airlines. The poor guy in front of us had about the width of his number "10" on his "seat" to sit in.

3) I was VERY impressed with how well the purple traveled.

4) That has to have been one of the worst football games I've ever seen. The Vikings total just over 100 yards of offense and the Packers needed about 5 times that to win by 2 with a minute and a half left.

5) Bubba Franks did everything he possibly could short of actually somehow scoring points for the Vikings to give the game away.

6) The Vikings are physically incapable of running a pass route between 2 and 40 yards.

7) The Vikings are physically incapable of covering a pass route between 2 and 40 yards. At one point in the game I was nearly compelled to run onto the field and glue a Viking to Donald Driver. How hard is that offense to figure out? Put 6 guys on DD. Repeat. Almost EVERY play was the same thing. Favre got way too much time to just stand there while Donald found a spot where there were no Vikings within 10 yards. ARG!!

8) It was nice to see the ol' Brett Favre Rule extend a key Packer drive. It had been a while.

9) As an addendum the the BFR - Bubba Franks was called for holding with roughly 2 minutes left. Brett took his helmet off to argue the call, which should have garnered a 15 yard penalty tacked on.

10) The Vikings play calling, like it has been all year, was terrible. They abandoned the run for no reason and constantly ran plays where only one guy can be a target and it's clear to everyone who that target is.

11) The Viking fans booed Johnson off the field in favor of Jackson last week. Karma, it seems, has Johnson's back. Jackson didn't light it up, but he wasn't exactly getting any help.

12) What do we have to do for Troy Williamson to catch a pass over 10 yards? He's had so many chances you would think he would have accidentally caught one by now. He overran a sure TD. He had 5 steps on the 2 Packers behind him. 7 points in this game would have been huge. This was also the last pass the Vikings threw over 3 yards all night despite it almost being a TD.

13) I almost forgot the most important one. I believe in my game comments above I said "a handful of 1st downs would be an improvement." Now it's hard to quantify how many of something that doesn't have mass or take up space can fit into an ambiguous measurement such as a "handful." I'm going to state for the record the number is greater than 3. 3 first downs?!? 3!?!

Well we didn't see it from the upcloseness that one would see it on TV, so you may be right. It looked from the replays on the jumbotron that he got shoved rather lightly by a Viking a full arms length away and then fell to the ground sprawled out like he got shot.

All the Packer fans in our section cheered the "acting job" on Favre's part.

It's true. Oh and there was a Viking fan who was turning around and cheering every good thing the Vikings did. One time when she did that she proceeded to spill all of the contents of her cup onto everyone around her. That was probably the only dumb viking fan. ALL PACKER fans who have tickets to Lambeau should not be allowed to have tickets to games. Packers have 3rd down and you see Tauscher trying to hush the crowd because everyone is starting to go wild. They have signs on the Jumbotron whenever the offense is on the field telling the crowd to shut the F up. Does anyone pay attention? NOO..... Oh and people were trying to start the wave when we were on offense. I hate Packer fans at Lambeau. Oh, and I should've just paid half price for my ticket because I only got half a seat. I had to hold my arms awkwardly so that the guy next to me could have his seat and half of mine. Not fair.
Bubba Franks has got to go. No questions asked. I've always liked the guy, but that's unacceptable. Now, maybe i'm being unfair considering I want Favre to stay and he handed the game to the Vikings after our defense did so well. Favre can stay one more year. But, we can't keep stickin' it to our defense. They play so well and then our offense lays an egg or starts playing for the other team.
Yikes. Oh well. We're still in contention!

I can't believe I didn't mention the crowd. I started my list with two points in mind. The 1st down comment and a comment on how god awful the crowd is and forget them both.

To be fair although that lady did in fact "turn around and cheer everything good the vikings did" that was only about 3 times.

The last time she spilled the cup over and over and over.

Edit: Also, Not only was the crowd loud when they shouldn't have been, they really weren't all that loud when they should have been.

first, comments on comments. Scott, I laughed out loud about the fabulous thing. four nuts.

second, good to see sarah giving actual comments. and bringing the info. four nuts.

also, jeremy I think it's all in your head (that she spilled it over and over again).

now to the game. terrible. this may sound like a defense mechanism, but as I've told matt, I'm surprised the vikings have won as many games as they have this year. The packers have shown how easy of a gameplan it is that you need to beat minnesotaand they haven't even executed it that well and still won. another thing I brought up during the game, as did jeremy now basically, did the vikings not remember the first game? the packers were doing the same exact thing. wait for driver to settle in about ten yards down in the middle of the field and favre has all day to get it to him when he is open.
also, our best offensive play was the one wehre williamson droped the ball. Johnson doesn't make that pass that accurately so I felt good about tarvaris jackson. actually though to me it was surprising how poorly jackson eluded tackles when he was on the run. he did well getting out of the way of the rushers but never seemed to go anywhere. maybe my expectations were too high.

No, it really was over and over. She was like jumping up and down and waving her hands around as if she was empty handed and her beer was sloshing everywhere. (Each time less and less obviously) It went on long enough for the people getting beer dumped on them to stand up and forcibly sit her down.

As a fellow Viking fan it was embarrassing.

Green Bay can clinch a playoff berth with:
1. A win plus a NY Giants win GB clinches strength of victory tiebreaker over NYG
Or
2. A win plus a NY Giants loss or tie plus a St. Louis loss or tie
Or
3. A win plus a NY Giants loss or tie plus a Carolina win
Or
4. A win plus a NY Giants loss or tie plus an Atlanta win
Or
5. A tie plus a NY Giants loss plus a St. Louis loss plus an Atlanta loss or tie plus a Carolina loss or tie

So........The Packers hold their own destiny?

I dont know what else #1 would mean.

I think what it means (after reading the Giants' scenarios) is.

1. A win plus a NY Giants win PLUS GB clinches strength of victory tiebreaker over NYG

Giants SOV: .438
Packers: .314

So I'm guessing that's out unless the Giants win by one and the Packers beat the Bears 159-0.

I thought strength of victory was how badly you beat teams. I guess it's like strength of schedule except only factoring the teams you beat.

Also, in case you haven't heard, the NFL "Flexed" the Packers/Bears game to be the ESPN Sunday night game.

Yeah, so now we'll know ahead of time if the game is meaningless or not. Not only might it not have any playoff implications, but it also may not be Favre's last game. It's possible that the game could be the most meaningless game ever to be given special consideration.

I think ESPN will jump at any chance to fellate Brett Farve in a more public setting, regardless of how flimsy the rational is.

Yes, I suppose it is. For some reason I had it in my head I had to post that it had been changed ASAP because you wouldn't be able to see it as you may have planned to. (Since you don't have ESPN and all)

As opposed to ESPN, who are seasoned experts at beating us over the head with Brett, NBC will be testing the "Favre Flogging" waters a bit.

It will be interesting so see how they handle it. I predict a shot of Favre into/out of 80% of commercials and 3 "inspirational" fluff pieces on him. We would of course be best served if those tributes were full of information anyone who touched Terra Firma in the last decade already knows.

A few comments. I think Jeremy corrected himself later, but Sunday night football plays on NBC, not ESPN. Second of all, it's FaVRe, not FaRVe.
Thirdly, Jon sux as much as George W.
Fourthly, GO PACK GO!

It's called a typo. At least I can read one comment above the one I'm currently making before I start the conjecture.

I don't think that makes sense...on a couple levels.

Oh, and so's your face.
