Dolphins 17 @ Steelers 28

Jeremy: Oh Daunte, why have you forsaken me! If Someone told you after the Superbowl that this game would be a battle between Charlie Batch and Daunte Culpepper I think you may have had that person committed.

Matt: Football sucks.

Jon: First a few things. I was reminded today that Roethlisberger has only been in the league two years. Doesn't it seem like he's been around longer than that? I mean three years ago basically no one knew who this guy was. Second, do you remember that HE made that tackle that saved their season last year? What a career already. Eli Manning was drafted the same year this guy was. I'm not bringing this up for any specific reason other than it seems interesting to me. Now to the game. I thought I was going to pick the dolphins, but it still seems like a little much to expect them to win this.

Sarah: With Ben out with a NFI, I think Culpepper and the Dolphins(!) will triumph. In either case, I will be watching because it's the start of the season!!!

Bears 26 @ Packers 0

Jeremy: Did you guys hear Brett Favre decided to come back? There was almost no taking a franchise hostage or anything! I'm sick of people saying the Bears will repeat when they only won last year because everyone else was so bad.

Matt: A little game of Over/Under for the comments section:
1. Interceptions thrown by Favre in this game. O/U (2).
2. Number of snaps taken by Aaron Rodgers in this game. O/U (3.5).

Jon: Another season begins for "the guy ahead of ARod on the depth chart".

Sarah: Oh man, I was at the game last Friday, and while the first string defense and offense looked impressive for their one series a piece, I just don't know what they will do during the actual season. If Ahman Green comes back strong and can run without any blocking by an invisible o-line, we should be ok.

Colts 26 @ Giants 21

Jeremy: I'm really surprised this game isn't being hyped more. Pancakes! Checkin' to Pancakes people! Seriously though one of these two teams has to install an audible called 'Pancakes', right?

Matt: I think Manning will have a good game.

Jon: Because America loves alliteration, this shall now be called the Manning Mayhem.

Sarah: Manning vs. Manning. Potentially the game of the year? Since Peyton will choke, and younger siblings like to show up their older siblings, I am going to give this one to Eli.

Vikings 19 @ Redskins 16

Jeremy: I can almost name 3 Vikings starters this year. Ok, that's not true, I could name alot...maybe all of them...but still I think my point is valid. (Although it's questionable whether of not there was a point there at all.) The Vikings did their usual 'lights out' preseason defense, but I refuse to get my hopes up. I've made that mistake before.

Matt: A few notes about the Vikings:
1. Their new uniforms suck.
2. I can't believe they traded Daunte Culpepper.
3. I still can't believe they traded Randy Moss.
4. They're still better than the rest of the teams in the NFC North.

Jon: Over the offseason, I figured I would pick against the Vikings this game. But I think they have enough to do it.

Sarah: The Vikings D has looked ok this preseason which means they will suck during the regular season. :) However, I don't think the Redskins have the weapons to get it done this first week. (Portis?) Chalk up a win for the rival.

Chargers 27 @ Raiders 0

Jeremy: Oh Randy, why have you forsaken me? The Sr. Nutcan staff got to witness Randy's return to the Metrodome this preseason. You could tell the entire crowd wanted nothing more than for Randy to score. Unfortunately Brooks played so bad that they didn't have a pass completed until damn near halftime. Jeff George to Randy Moss anyone?

Matt: Art Shell for Coach of the Year.

Jon: Aaron Brooks looked terrible every time I saw him this preseason.

Sarah: The Chargers have some powerful offensive weapons, but some of their defense has seen actual weapons in the preseason. Ahem. I saw the Raiders live a few weeks ago (put a $(^(!426*!@&^$*!&@#^$ jersey on) and was not entirely impressed. The Chargers should win this one no problem unless Aaron Brooks can find his targets.

Jennings did have catches of 85 and 89 yards. That would be enough for me to bump a rookie ahead of a guy who still plays like a rookie.

If I were the guy who got bumped though, I'd be upset. I wonder what kind of competitor Ferguson actually is.

He went on to say more, but I couldn't paste all of it at once for some reason. Clearly the webmaster needs to take a look at that.

He said he thought he played well so he was surprised by it. He "loves" Jennings "to death" and "if it were anyone else...". Packers coaches just thought Jennings had a preseason you couldn't ignore.

Greg Jennings had a pro-bowl caliber preseason. Although there is probably a pretty huge list of unknown's who have had great preseasons. And when I say probowl, I mean he had a couple good catches. He also dropped a few passes, but the game in which he did pretty much everyone was dropping passes. Anyway, he'll have a great year, hold out next season, break his knee in the first game, and get traded to the cardinals during next year's draft.

ps, Jon, if you are coming to Navs tonight, bring the bobblehead, and I'll bring a check for softball.

Sarah, would you still cheer for Favre if he was playing for, say, the Jets, or Rams, or Chiefs? Just curious, because Favre said he wouldn't rule out playing for another team if the opportunity presented itself.

I don't know. I mean obviously, he's given a lot to us, but he also said he'd never leave us and I can't really picture him going anywhere else. He has said over and over again that he wouldn't go any place else and then he keeps talking about whether or not he'll retire each year. I think I'd be pretty pissed if he would go to another team. It just wouldn't be right.

It's kind of like sending your kid off to college. You know their just going to rot away if they stay at home (analogous of the current situation in GB), and sending them off to college, while bittersweet, you know they can become a doctor or a lawyer or a teacher and make something of their life (analogous of Favre going to a potential super bowl team). I think if it ever came to pass, I will cheer for Favre the way I cheer for every player who has played in Wisconsin for a significant time and then gone somewhere else. Basically, I hope Favre plays as long as he still wants to play. If that is somewhere other than Green Bay, so be it. I respect the decision of Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Emmett Smith, Michael Jordan, Reggie Jackson, etc. Peace.

There would have to be another team willing to take him. Those other guys you listed had something left in the tank. I know this will just sound like me "taking a shot" at Favre but I honestly felt like many positives from last year were DESPITE Favre's efforts rather than because of them.

The Bengals game is a perfect example. Brett throws 5 picks yet the rest of the team hangs around with a team that was amongst football's best last year. They give him one last shot at redemption and he pulls a stunt that made you question if he even knew he was playing at the time.

Michael Jordan? He had nothing in the tank when he played for the Wizards. He even went 0-20 in one game from the field. And Jerry Rice finally got cut by the Broncos. But the thing is, I have no problem with that. I see nothing wrong with a player retiring because he got cut. And I think given some better talent, Favre can still play at a pretty good level.

I'm so far behind here...

1st of all Ferguson would have no basis for complaining if I moved ahead of him on the depth chart. He's lucky just to be on the roster and I think he knows it.

Players have no allegience to teams anymore and teams have no allegience to players, therefore I reserve the right to cheer for players and teams when and if I feel like it. I've always thought that one should cheer for the home team unless given a significant reason not to, so you can pretty much mark me down as a fan of any Wisconsin team since I've to this point lived my entire life in the state. As long as Favre doesn't pull a TO to get off of the Packers I would probably still root for him.

Along those lines, I feel it necessary after Scott's comment to mention that there are certain lines that can't be crossed without consequences. Meaning that such traitors as Sharper are instantly dead to me when they go over to the dark side.

Favre had a terrible 1st half of the season, then he started to play better and everything else got worse. Anyway, new season tomorrow, time to stop living in the past.

I think the context of Favre saying that he could play for another team was if the Packers and he came to an understanding that the team wanted to go in another direction and that Favre would have to go elsewhere if he still wants to play. Like if Brad Johnson got hurt after this season and the Vikings needed a QB to put them over the top, Favre could go there and play:)

I suspect Chambers ran the right route. You can't run a deep out-post pattern from the 4 yard line. Has Culpepper always thrown sidearm? Well, I'm off to see if Charlie Batch is still available in our league...
