Buccaneers 48 @ Raiders 21

I don't want to see what Warren Sapp will be like if they win the Superbowl. I like Brad Johnson so at least that will partially cushion the blow if they do win. There are like 8 ties to the Vikings in these games, including both starting Quarterbacks. I'm still a tad upset at myself for not picking Tampa Bay last week, if there was one thing I was sure of it was that Tampa would beat Philly but I fought my better judgment and took Philly. I find myself in the same situation this week. Tampa will win, but I picked Oakland. Their defense is impenetrable and their offense is rolling with my man Brad in there. So why did I pick Oakland? On second thought I'm not gonna.

I ran a simulation of the Super Bowl with Madden 2003 on the GameCube and the Buccaneers beat the Raiders 28-7. Brad Johnson took home the MVP. Of course, I don't think the Raiders will run the ball about 20 times in the first quarter like they did in the simulation, so it might not be wise to use that outcome as a guide. I also ran the game through WhatIfSports.com where the Buccaneers again triumphed over the Raiders. This time by a score of 24-17. Once more Brad Johnson was the MVP. Forget who the microchips like. I'm sure Brad Johnson will have a fine game but, I think Rich Gannon will have a better one and will lead the Raiders to a 28-17 win in the real Super Bowl. For his efforts Gannon will be awarded the MVP of the game.

This being the Super Bowl and all, I’m going to do something I don’t do a whole lot; I’m going to cheer for one team but pick the other. I’m not a fan of the Buccaneers but they are the official pick to win this game. Have you seen them play lately? Their defense is smothering. Impregnable, some might say. And here’s the thing: their offense isn’t too bad either. When Brad Johnson is playing, they win games. The Buccaneers played Pittsburgh (a pass-heavy offense) recently and gave up only seventeen points. The Raiders should be able to put up a few more (maybe) and as long as it’s Johnson at quarterback the Buccaneers should put up more than that. I think the biggest thing that the Raiders have going is the big game experience of Jerry Rice and Bill Romanowski, among others. But I still can’t get over how well the Buccaneers have been playing. I might even cheer for them, actually. Brad Johnson for MVP!!!!!

This game is going to be mean. I think the raiders will have the advantage because they live right next to San Diego, and their fans are crazy. The number one defense vs. the number one offense should make this an intense game, one worth watching. Plus, a lot of the Raiders are older than the hills, and this could be their last shot at a Super Bowl. I really really cannot stand Romanowski, but it'll be nice to see Gannon and Brown and Garner and many others win the Super Bowl. (Notice the exclusion of Jerry Rice. HA!)
