That's a pretty solid top 10. Draft smaft, it's baseball time with a possibility of some worthwhile NBA playoffs for once. And MLS time, which would be more exciting if I could figure out which team to root for.

I'm glad someone went to the work of defining which plays were the top ten because the debate was getting out of hand. Now I can focus my energies on finally acquiring the 34th Brett Favre Sports Illustraded Tribute. This latest one is a swimsuit edition! (You can't tell me he's not still in playing shape!)

Brett Favre slipped into Minneapolis over the weekend and rumors started that he would be making a comeback for one of Green Bay's divisional rivals.

This sounded improbable and then Favre's agent, Buss Cook clarified what was REALLY going on.

"As Brett pointed out during his retirment press conference he is mentally and emotionally tired ...........Minnesota seemed to be the best place to get as far from professional football as possible.........it's really as simple as that"

Original. Was he going to a Twins game hoping to bump into Viking officials?

I wonder where the farthest distance from an NFL team is. Northern Montana? Southern Idaho/Northern Nevada area?

Edit: VVV Yes, contiguous US was implied.

It's obviously a reaction to the fact that they finally realized they could take a dump in a box, put Favre's picture on it, and it will sell out in Wisconsin. I expect hundreds of people to buy this game despite not owning a video game system.

I don't agree with Jon's crude statement. Madden's game is always like the #1 video game for the year. They didn't have to put Favre's pic on it to sell the game. It was the 20th anniversary, and who better embodied the spirit of the NFL for most of the last 20 years than Favre?

I made a crude statement?

It's called a joke.

People buy brett favre stuff. That's the point of the joke. Anything you read into it beyond that is your choice I guess.

Anyway, I'd argue against your reasoning even if I was making a serious business point. Of course they don't HAVE to try anything to sell more copies of a game that is already going to be #1, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't. Especially if it's as easy as putting a picture on there.
But again, I was just making a joke.

There are tons of people who genuinely respect people like Adrian Peterson or Larry Fitz, etc that do not like the team they play for. Even quality players of a rivalry team are respected. Guess it skipped the 'can.

In all seriousness: I respect Favre the player. I'm sick of the Favre fawning. It goes beyond the common respect one gives good players, who are good guys, on hated teams (like the way I feel about Donald Driver.) It is mindless repetitive gibberish at this point. There is one Brett Favre article out there with 4,000 writers attached to it.

There is one dissenting look at Favre's career published here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=paolantonio_sal&id=3281535

I think the quote that sums it up the best is this one: "Eli Manning had more postseason wins in a 29-day span this past season than Favre had in his last decade"

Favre long ago became beyond criticism, no matter how many mistakes he made, no matter how many games be blew, no matter how many inexplicable "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!" int's he threw he was always just "gunslingin'" Peyton Manning was mercilessly beaten about the media because "all" he ever did was take his team deep into the playoffs every year.

Favre was a great player and seems to be a nice enough guy, at least in that I don't think he wishes you any specific harm. The coverage surrounding Favre was hardly fair and balanced and the absurdity of that is what we're virtually always talking about here.

I watched it. There were definitely times that the interview seemed painful, but Brett Favre isn't exactly an outgoing guy. Other than a few spots, I thought it was they were pretty funny together. Letterman made it pretty funny though with some of his pretty classic Lettermanesque comments.

Good job scott. I agree.

Though for the record, I find it awkward that he's on the cover. It's their choice, it's not somehow a crisis or an offense of some kind, but doesn't it actually just look weird? They always try to be really current with the cover player, sometimes choosing someone who hasn't really had more than one good season but is the "next thing," but here they not only chose someone who's on the down side of the career parabola, but a guy who actually is retired. It just doesn't seem to fit. If they wanted it because of the whole anniversary thing, they should play that angle up a bit more, in my opinion. As it is, it just looks like the newest edition of madden but this time with an older player on the cover. Anyone else know what I mean?

Video about the cover.

They did something similar with Michael Jordan in NBA Live 2001. Jordan wasn't on the cover, but 2001 was the first time he was actually included in the game, and he was this "wild card" type player that Favre talks about. I'm sure Favre will be given the "perfect" rating for everything. Just imagine, Jeremy, you could make him a viking, or, put him on the Dolphins and play an entire season where you make him throw 2 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. What dreams may come, right?
