Sigh. I guess it must be. I love the era that we live in now. It's never a matter of not suing, or if it's just to sue, or if there's cause to sue, the battles always just come down to who deserves the blame, and thus, will be sued. |

"Hey look, something tragic happened. Good thing I just won the lottery, now I can cope!" No offense, but they can kiss my ass. |

Not that I really ever feel the need to explain myself, but I hope it's obvious that I truly regret their loss, and find it to be extremely unfortunate. That said, suing for millions (in my opinion) is either a half-hatched way to try to assign fault (sure it helps with closure) or a terrible act of opportunism and selfishness. I stick with my original post, but want to stress that it is aimed at the opportunists. |

Also the system in general should be blamed, unless VT really thinks they did something wrong that they need to pay for. The system is so poor that they've decided it's better to just plop down a wad of cash before anyone even files suit because that's easier than actually going to court. |

Oh, the system has major flaws. I mean people react afterwards using the perfect 20/20 resolution of hindsight saying "But they knew he was crazy! How could they NOT see this coming?!" But really, I mean, how many kids does this have to be true for? As wrong as it sounds I'd rather live in a society that has the occasional mass murder than one that locks up anyone who shows even the slightest abnormalities (Or, of course, plays Counter Strike) and demands mass evacuations from campuses/malls/cities/states every time someone nearby raises their voice. To me the "A-Bomb" story points to a bigger long term concern for our society than the really quite rare instances of mass violence. http://www.boingboing.net/2008/04/03/nickname-triggers-bo.html |
