School Fears 'Cougars' Mascot Will Offend Women
In pop culture, the term “cougar” refers to a sexually aggressive middle-aged woman who attracts younger men. However, the cougar is also a large mountain cat...
I think cougars should be more offended for being compared to sexually-aggressive women.

According to urbandictionary.com the term Chargers refers to either "the worst team in the whole NFL." or "the WORST team in the NFL". So much for avoiding negative connotations. |

The Term shark refers to a mobster that loans you money and the breaks your legs if you don't repay. However, it's a little known fact that shark also refers to a variety of salt water fish. |

I know the internet went crazy here, but it is possible that the students only banded together to pick this BECAUSE of it's other meaning. Sort of like if some official in MN thought that "Skeeters" would be a good nickname for a school in MN (where it's often said the state bird is the mosquito), but after watching the process play out on facebook and whatnot the school brass realized that Skeeters only won because of the Urban Dictionary version of skeet. Cougars would obviously be a more tame version of that, but it wouldn't be totally unreasonable, if that happened. |
