I carry the Duck Hunt gun in my golf compartment. Does that qualify as a concealed weapon?

The gatling gun can not only ruin an attackers day/existance, but it can also shoot down RPGs and other explosive projectiles.

These types of devices are used against cruise missiles and other nasties on our navy ships and at static positions on land- and obviously on vehicles. The navy calls it a Phalanx CIWS system, but some call it R2D2, cuz it looks like him.

EDIT: R2 in action:

I had no idea they'd have such a thing. Did Dubya (I can rightly call him that now) have that kind of thing?

I'm not sure, seems to me they must be semi-new, at least in a "reasonably usable" form. I'm basing that baseless assumption off the fact that I'd never seen anything like that before and now this is like the 4th incarnation of it I've seen the last years or so.

aparently the (Mark 15) CIWS system has been around longer than you, Jerm- deployed in 1980 aboard the USS Coral Sea. The down and dirty data, thanks to Al Gore:

Well, gatling guns have been around since the 1860's. I'm taking about an SUV mountable version that spits 30 rounds in the blink of an eye.

That thing on the ship, while cool, is huge. Electronics aren't the only thing that can get smaller as technology progresses, it seems.

I wonder though, at what point is all the extra security around a president a security risk in and of itself? Say the president was giving a speech somewhere in a downtown area. Wouldn't restricting access to rooftops and windows be safer than putting sharp shooters all over the place and whatnot. Seems like you're doing all the hard work for someone, and all they have to do is put your hat on and walk around with your gun. Plus, you could assume anyone on the roof, or where ever there shouldn't be people, is a threat. If you surround the president with guns it seems like it would make the job of identifying a threat nearly impossible, and not that much easier to handle.

Which isn't to say I don't think there should be something set up, just that there's a certain amount of "the only way the terrorists can get a gun is if the air marshall brings it on for them" aspect to it, isn't there? Or have I watched too many movies? Get off my plane?

I was thinking more along the lines of where and when exactly they would use such a weapon. If the Pres is cruising around a big city and comes under RPG attack are they just going to start mowing down buildings with that thing? Although, if there isn't some sort of targeting system I'm not sure what the odds of manual aim brining down an RPG are.

I think the gatling gun on the securty van mentioned in the thread is the same one that Neo uses to try to blast agent Smith from the helicopter in the first Matrix. So if we ever have to protect the president from agents, we'll be set.

Fine, maybe we said "Screw going with Jeremy, he'd probably bring a girl!"

EDIT: ten years is a long time, it's possible I hung out with him too much back then and just assumed he'd be there
