This is the "Major League" division of English soccer for those who don't know. Arguably the highest quality league in the world. If nothing else it's something to watch on Saturday mornings during the fall/winter (Fox Soccer Channel), and I think ESPN will be broadcasting some games this season too. Notable American national team players are Tim Howard for Everton, Clint Dempsey for Fulham, Jozy Altidore for Hull City, Brad Guzan for Aston Villa, Eddie Johnson for Fulham, and Jonathan Spector for West Ham United.

I'll be pulling for Hull City this year because of Jozy and they're a good underdog pick after making it to the Premier League for the first time in 100+ years last year and avoiding relegation by only 1 point.

Altidore made his first appearance for Hull last weekend as a 60th minute sub, and had a fantastic assist within about 30 seconds for 1-0 win. Then he scored his first goal in their next game in the Carling Cup. Hopefully a preview of things to come for US National team.

Also, what spurred to start this blog was the wild finish to the Tottenham-Birmingham game just now. 1-1 into the 4th minute of extra time when a defender tripped over his own feet at midfield which lead to a breakaway goal complete with an ankle breaking crossover at the 18 before the Spur's player put in the corner of the net for the win.

And 2 of the best teams are playing right now on FSC, Manchester United and Arsenal.

To anyone interested,
Right now you can get some pretty good deals on soccer jerseys, etc. on http://www.mlsgear.com/home/index.jsp
25% off on already marked down outlet merchandise.

It's not just MLS either. I don't think there's any Hull city stuff, but if you click on "beyond MLS" link, there are some foreign jerseys like Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Real Madrid, and Mexico among others that you can apparently get pretty cheap.
