Thoughts that have been bouncing around my head, and other stuff I feel like bringing up.

I don't go out of my way to follow what's going on in the music scene, or what the kids are listening to, so I'm not an authority. But since it's everywhere, I take note of the pop scene every now and then. I've heard that new Akon song a few times now, and the verses just sound like R. Kelly's song from a few years ago. The one where he talks about coke and rum. I'm not calling him a theif, I'm just saying that when I heard Akon's song playing in a restaurant bathroom, I thought I was hearing a remix of the R. Kelly song. I hated that song. Really though, I hated that it became popular. It came out right after that whole underage sex scandal of his and nobody seemed to be turned off by the fact that they were listening to him sing about getting drunk and having sex with some girl at a party. I mean, I can get pulled in by a catchy tune like anyone, but seriously, let's draw the line at R. Kelly singing about his nasty sex life.

Which actually leads me to my next thought, even though I didn't plan on connecting them. I think Blue's Traveler's "Hook" is one of the better songs of our lifetime. I have no idea what it's about, but man it sounds good.

Have you heard this new song "Vulnerable"?
Apparently the band is called Secondhand Serenade. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this, but it has that emo sound like dashboard confessional had (not that I'm comparing them) and it just seemed weird to me because it seemed about 4 years out of place. Anyway, if that's their style I'm fine with it. I don't think musicians should just go with whatever is popular at that time. But still, it was weird for me.

Moving on.
Anyone see that Ben Sheets left a game with an injury the other day? I think that was either the same day, or close to the same day that they announced Mark Prior was officially done for the season again. I can't get over how weird the whole thing is. Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Ben Sheets. They can't stay healthy. Is it Lake Michigan?
Isn't it weird how different people's bodies are? Some guys just can't help but get injured and others are like Bruce Willis. I mean, Favre doesn't miss a game since the early 90s and then A-Rod replaces him mid game and breaks his foot.

NFL Draft is coming up. I know we've talked about this before, but I recently heard some people on tv talking about how some teams don't even want the top picks in the draft anymore. It's just not worth paying all that money. And that means that it's harder to trade those picks away too. Peter King of SI.com brought up in his column, and on tv, how the old picks conversion chart is meaningless now because who would want to trade away 2nd and 3rd round picks to move up a couple slots in the first round when they have to spend so much more on that player after drafting him?
The money aspect of sports ends up making it really frustrating sometimes. And even though it's only part of the problem mentioned above, I think the salary cap is terrible. Just thought I needed to mention that again.

I'm pretty sure there was other stuff I wanted to bring up, but I don't write them down. Maybe I'll post some more later if I remember them.

As a society one of our bigger flaws, of which we have many, is that no one seemed to give a crap about R Kelly's transgressions. He was teased for like a week, then we all moved on.

As for Blue's Traveler, "The Mountains Win Again" is an excellent song.

As for the "re-injury" thing. Isn't it much more likely that those players aren't really all that healthy to begin with?

If the NFL made it so players you draft or have had on the team for like 5 years didn't count toward, or counted as like the "league average" for that position, or counted half, or whatever, it would go a long way towards fixing football's woes. They also need to nip those rookie contracts in the butt ASAP.

Also, was there a point to your "Secondhand Serenade" comment. It seems like your thought sort of trailed off, without an actual thought/opinion on the song. You just thought it was weird because you thought that the genre was over? What do you think the kids are listening to? Monster ballads? It's rap and emo.

Remember what happened to John Popper when he got skinny? Drugs and wimmin. Getting skinny ruined his music life. Oh, and I rememeber listening to that Mountains song with Jeremy and the "girlfriend of the time"... bad times...

Kids these days- the music they listen to sounds horrible to me, 8 of 10 times.

FYI, I also think Akon (sucks) took the R Kelly song. I have said this many times to people, but nobody cares about Akon anyway.

At least Sheets' injury isn't his shoulder, although the groin is no laughing matter either.

And I think that Secondhand Serenade does sound kinda like Dashboard Confessional. And this is coming from a recovering Dashboard Junkie.

Blue's Traveler songs that are good (besides the obvious): Canadien Rose, Precarious, Carolina Blues.

How about this: instead of a team salary cap, make it so that players can make no more than $8 million a year total. I mean, the NFL players union is the weakest union in sports, I think Roger Goodell could slip it past everyone.

Oh, and Ned Yost tripped and broke his collar bone running in Chicago on Tuesday. But like the true gamer that he is, he refused to put his arm in a sling; he had a game to manage.

On the secondhand serenade thing, Jeremy, there wasn't anything earthshattering I was trying to say, just that it felt like it "didn't belong." And kids might listen to emo, but I haven't been hearing anything that sounded like that in a while. Anyway, maybe next time I'll write something about a sandwich.

As for this,

I respond so quickly during the day because there are 2 ways I get alerted of comments and 4 ways I get alerted of a new blog/article. If my rss reader alerts me of a comment, why wouldn't I come read it?
