Joe Mauer has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left fibula. He will be treated with a bone stimulator and physical therapy and is scheduled reevaluated on Sunday.
Fortunately, the Twins caught it before it developed into a stress fracture. Odds are that it won't become a long-term problem if the Twins take care of it now, but Mauer did just become a riskier pick. If he's out for any length of time, the Twins would go with Mike Redmond and Chris Heintz as their catchers. Maybe there's a slight chance that the Twins would use him as a DH rather than as a catcher at the start of the season, leaving Jason Kubel with fewer at-bats.

Obviously this was written with fantasy baseball in mind, but I think it has a bigger impact here, what with all the Twins fans.

Hopefully he's not out for any length of time, thankfully they caught it when they did...apparently.
