They call it a Pro Bowl, yet they still put 2 Packers and 3 Vikings on the team

Matt Birk, Steve Hutchinson, and Kevin Williams were selected for the Vikings, and Donald Driver and Aaron Kampman were selected for the Packers.

Personally, I think either Al Harris or Charles Woodson got hosed. Al Harris held Roy Williams to like 1 catch in their game against the Lions. But whatever, the Packers suck.

Also, Brett Favre did receive an honorary selection, but he turned it down. You won't see this in the press, but I promise I didn't make it up.

Alas, Robert Ferguson got shafted again.

Pro Bowl / MVP / Heisman / Whatever other honor can be given to a singular player != Good/Bad Team.

There should only be a loose correlation based on the fact that it's more likely the really good teams have a lot of players playing at a high level.

It's MORE impressive when someone lights it up on a crappy team. If your team has 20 tds on the year and you're 18 of them that's saying something, seeing as there's no reason you shouldn't be sextuple teamed on every play. If a team has two guys with 15 TD receptions chances are they both benefited from the other's presence.

No one cares about the Pro Bowl anyway. I'm pretty sure that I've seen maybe 4 quarters combined over the last 15 years, and that's only cause I see that it's on, switch over to it, watch like 3 plays and realize that it's way less exciting than any college basketball that happens to be on. It's a joke on so many levels that it's not even funny.

And for every excellent play that Al Harris has made this year, he's had a corresponding total burnage for a TD. And Roy Williams had no TDs and one 100 yard game in weeks 10-14, so it's not like shutting him down was that impressive. Woodson might have a case though, he's had a good year.

I didn't realize Driver was leading the NFC in yards. I don't think Boldin should have made the team though.

Ferguson's only redeeming quality is that if he ever manages to do something good they can play Fergilicous on the sound system.

I was almost entirely kidding, but the Title "Pro Bowl" just seemed too boring, and since both the Packers and the Vikings suck this year, it seemed fitting to make some comment about that.

In reality, Driver is having one of his best seasons yet. I can't really remember a season where a Packer receiver has been so obviously the goto guy. Not only that, but he is living up to the goto guy status. He makes some ridiculous catches, and he seems like one of the best in the league currently at running after the catch.

Matt Birk has been good for a while, and Steve Hutchinson was a pro bowler before he came to the Vikings, so no surprise that those guys were selected.

Congrats to my team the Detroit Lions, with their amazing 0 players named to the pro bowl. Here's looking to another year of blowing a high first round draft pick (we can only hope it will be a special year in that they blow the actual first pick...a feat not yet accomplished)

Also I wasn't so much directing my comment at Scott. It is however a common belief that any player on a bad team should be ignored for an award such as this.

The pro bowl is all about being named to the pro bowl. I'd wager to get about 30% of the people who watch football religiously watch the game. I'd also bet that about 5% of football fans don't even know there's an actual game at all and that they aren't just naming a "ceremonial" type team.

Thought I would scour the can for last years arguments. Eerily similar.

PS Ferguson sucks.

EDIT: Alex gets an honorary, in theory, 5 nut trees for sticking to his statement that no one watches the pro bowl. I never do, however, I might this year for Favre.

I'd forgotten that Woodson got the shaft last year too. You'd think a former Heisman winner would get a little more love.
