why is the default setting on computers to have the number lock off? who are these people using the arrows and page up/page down functions?

Jeremy never has his num lock on. I can't survive without it.
If you were smart enough to know anything about a computer, you would know you can change how the computer starts up in the BIOS, and you can easily change that default setting.

|Num lock is the default "run until you stop" button in WOW, so I keep turning it off and then trying to use the keypad later on. Good times.|

Wow, how did this blog get rediscovered?
(that's "wow" as in "Weapons of Warcraft, Batman, how did this blog get rediscovered.")

|Clearly I meant "world" but I can't say I really know anything about World of Warcraft, so my attempt to make a joke about failed brilliantly. You've got to admit though, had I crafted the name correctly, that would have been a pretty clever post.|

I just ran across this annoying number lock defaulting as "off" phenomenon again. I think it was actually the day before Alex decided to bring this thread back to our attention.
Just for the record, I was truly insulted when Bret (I think) went all "superior computational being" on me in that second comment.
Plus, it was a school lab computer, so I'm not sure if I could have changed anything anyway.
