So I'm redoing The Can and I have the core functionality of the site more or less working.

Now I'm wondering what we can do that's new (maybe even an exclusive niche of something).

One planned new feature will be a "Nutcan Master Debates"® section. We've had long winded debates on stuff before (and will more likely than not rehash it) but the typical message board style blog where everything is one long list of responses doesn't suit a point/counterpoint format. We'll try to come up with a format more suiting to that of a debate. (I'm thinking a topic gets posted, anyone who wants to makes their case both in paragraph form and "chooses sides" for a summary box. No one sees what other people argue until it's time to "go live". At this point you can reply directly to a point/counterpoint "thread" or make general comments at the bottom like all pages. (ie I think your page sucks and you don't know a damn thing about ___ (where blank is our current topic)) As we've seen in the past any "debate" gets us all up in a posting tizzy, so hopefully we can get the content flowing again. In a perfect world we would succeed in any debate degenerating into childish name calling by counterpoint 4.

For the record "Nutcan Master Debates"® was a joke...but the more I pondered it the more the name grew on me. I think every site is allowed one cheap 'Big Wood' style gag.

Also I'm wondering if anyone uses or ever checks all the stuff on the main page (like the MLB standings, Comics, TV, ect...)

If I shouldn't bother in redoing all that stuff what should the main page consist of?

I need some ideas people.

ps. I can do without the Page 3/Nutcan sucks, do nothing, comments.

pps. I need a picture of Scott for his blogs/articles. Which reminds me to mention that Scott and Alex will have blog writing/article writing abilities. In fact Alex already has 2 articles and they both have many blogs. (The forum is going bye bye and those posts became blogs since all but a handful of the forum theads were started by one of the 6 of us anyway, we'll figure something out for the handful later)

My own personal opinion is that a main page should load in .0000000001 seconds and if I want to click on something that takes longer to load from that point on it's my own problem. I have the main page bookmarked but I often click on the "Newest Content" link before the page loads. Maybe I'm just impatient.

I say keep the comics IFF it's limited to Dilbert or it can be linked to my profile somehow that I only want to see Dilbert. Then I would probably always read it there instead of using my Dilbert bookmark.

If I'm checking the weather I want to see radar, so I've never once ever used the forecast on here.

I can't say that I look at the Baseball stuff too often, but its the thought that counts.

The other stuff, Newest Content, Newest Articles, and RSS feeds are crucial to the success of the main page.

See it's helpful to know that the RSS feed thing is of consequnce. I didn't think anyone even noticed.

What if I let you add and remove feeds based on your account?

Maybe even instead of you add 5 that get displayed at random you get more then one rss box.
