X-Files: Why I am not sad to say good-bye

03/10/2002
Unruhe: The first Episode I ever saw.
Triangle: A classic if there ever was one.
"Home" was considered too graphic for television.
Krycek: The real one armed man.
A saga is coming to a close and yet I am not as traumatized as I had thought. A great sense of relief has overcome me. My love affair began my freshman year of high school, and now my relationship has turned sour. With the end very much in sight, I thought I would reminisce about the past and grumble about the present.

The first episode I ever saw scared me. (Unruhe) Since then I have been an X-Phile who takes my Sundays from 9-10 pm (8-9 CST) very seriously.

The X Files was more than just a sci-fi show; it had many dimensions and played them all very well. With the lights off and me in my basement alone I was prepared for anything they threw at me. Mythology, humor, or an episode like "Home" (which was banned from network television because of the violence) all of it was excellent. The show was never afraid to try new things, there was the black and white episode, and then there's my second my favorite episode, "Triangle" where the show is shot with a special camera in real time. Remember the video for Supersonic's "closing time?" The screen split and present day Scully ran past 1939 Scully.

I can't mention my 2nd favorite episode without mentioning my all time favorite. "Small Potatoes" toyed with us when the sneak preview for it showed Mulder about to kiss Scully. When Eddie Van Blundht (the H is silent) transformed himself into Mulder, it was hilarious because it was like Duchovny got to play a whole other character. ("I was born a loser but you're one by choice." "Treat yourself every once in a while, lord knows I would.") Now I know none of you have any idea what I'm talking about but hey let me have my moment of a nice memory.

In Mulder's search for his sister Samantha, the duo ran into a bunch of good and bad guys alike. (Sooner or later most of them were killed off, oh Krycek how we miss thee!) But now, well I can't even force myself to watch it. The show's focus was always about Mulder. Scully soon pulled her own weight, but without Mulder, it's like why even bother? Mulder was written off the show by saying he had gone into hiding, which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. When has our hero ever been too afraid to continue his quest for the truth?? Lamest write off ever. Sure he wanted to explore his movie career options but come on, the X-Files was the greatest thing that ever happened to him. He constantly complained about the show yet I have a newspaper article that says something to the effect of yea I complain every once in awhile but it's just like when a husband grumbles about his wife. He grumbles but he's not going to leave his wife. Well mister, you walked out on your wife when she needed you most. Now all viewers have is mumble jumble that nobody can understand. No offense, but does anyone really care about Agent Doggett and or Agent Rayesse?

I must admit that I have been a ‘shipper for a long time. But when it was revealed that Scully's baby was in fact Scully AND Mulder's baby and then they did their big kiss I have to admit I felt let down.

So now with the countdown at 9 episodes, I'm not even sure if I'll watch them. I don't even know who the enemy is anymore; I actually miss Cigarette Smoking Man. (s.o.b. that he was) Duchovny is coming back for the finale and there is still the X Files movies so maybe it will redeem itself.

So it's time to say farewell to an outstanding series. At least I still have FX.

True statement. Did you know you can actually buy Chi-Chi's corn cake mix in the grocery store? I think you basically just add in a can of corn and bake it. I've never actually made it myself but I've eaten it and it's almost as good as getting it at the restaurant. Considering the fact that the restaurant isn't really an option, it definitely does the job.

I made it before a couple years ago. If I remember correctly it was pretty good. I guess I didn't even realize that the merchandise line was still available.

That is freaking fantastic...is there a corn cake finder like the pudding pop finder, because I've never seen that in the stores out here, but I would get that all the time.

EDIT: I guess I could actually read the website
