Hersheys creates powdered mints in breath strip packages, some keen observer notes cocaine is also a powder

No overreaction follows, oh wait, this is America, everything is the end of the world.

When are they going to take flour and sugar off the market too?

Also, am I just sick or did anyone else "lol" at picturing a person being shown a mint and breaking down into tears?

That is just over analyzing to the max. Oregano can look like pot. Should I worry I might accidentally ingest a bag of 'tree' thinking it is a bag of oregano while making spaghetti?

What if some unhip teacher notices kids doing snuff, but lets it slide thinking it's Big League Chew? HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO KNOW!?!?

Yeah, that writer was bad.

I think Hershey's knows exactly what it's doing. Kids are doing more drugs than candy, so they need a product that looks like drugs to promote them.

Remember back when candy cigarettes were "deplorable"? Those were the good ol days.

On second thought, Hersheys may be creating a marketing event out of this storm. Create the awareness, up the demand, double the sales.

I think law enforcement people are the only people who could even make the connection, loose as it is. I don't think Hersey thought about it at all.

One of the key people in the article is a cop who's early teenage daughter ODed on heroine. Clearly, mints, however much they cause her to weep, are not this woman's biggest problem.

I really don't think Hershey's planned this in any way, shape, or form. They probably think it's as silly as anything else. Don't people sometimes cook crack in the little tinfoil pieces it probably gets transported in? Should Hershey pull the Hersheys Kiss off the market too?

That being said, I want to try these mints, and I would have not yet heard of them if it weren't for this article.

You seem to know an awful lot about crack transportation.

Here's my favorite part: "What if a teenager took them to school? Even though each pouch has a small Ice Breakers logo on it, how would a street-naive teacher differentiate it from drug packets, which are also sometimes labeled by their distributors?"

How would a street-naive teacher know what drug packets look like in the first place?

My thoughts exactly Alex.

The second most odd passage was:
"What if a drug dealer mixed some in with real street drugs and sold them to an unsuspecting buyer - who retaliated with a spray of bullets?"

Well, that, like any other shooting would be terrible. Just like if anyone already committing some other crime decided to lie to someone and shooting broke out. What if two burglars are robbing a house and one of them takes a diamond ring and gives his partner a cubic zirconia but says it's a diamond too, and then that guy gets angry and assaults him? How dare QVC sell those rings!
And that's not to mention that I'm pretty sure people already substitute common substances for drugs all the time. At least that's what tv has taught me.

Also, as far as the reporter's objectivity, she is a columnist so part of her job is to state her opinion.

Speaking of objectivity, if someone happened to be employed by a company that partners with the Hershey's corporation, you don't have to assume their comments are affected by that situation. Seriously though, has anyone tried their chocolate lately? Delicious!

Also, snorting pop rocks would blow your face off.

If you google "powdered mints" this page actually comes up before the actual article. I'm glad we could add value to the internet.

Matt and Jon got some of these the other day. They were so-so. I just thought I'd post a follow up.

We didn't turn to drugs as a result either.
